Aquathon Series gets off to a Flying Start!
On Wednesday 1st August 2007 Gortnor Abbey Pier played host to the first race of the 4 Race Aquathon Series that is being organised for Liquid Motion Triathlon Club Members. A good turn out of club members assembled for the handicapped start, it was great to see some new members to the club which now has a membership of over 40 triathletes. Linda Sweeney was the first athlete to brave Lough Conn's waters and headed off around the buoys on the 500m swim, the race was on! The handicapped system helps to maintain fairness in this type of race and if the start times have been worked out correctly then it should be bunch finish, but it was Sean Leonard who crossed the line first to take the maximum score of 30 points followed by Gerry Devaney. There were some good performances all round. Tomas Lynn putting in a super swim of 6min 42 seconds and Micheal Forde tearing around the run course to break 18 minutes. The next race in the series is on 8th August at 7pm, meet at Gortnor Abbey Pier. The remaining 2 races have been organised for 22nd & 29th August. Well done everyone. See you all next week.
