Summer is officially over!!
The final race in the Summer Aquathlon series took place last night, Wedensday 29th August. There was plenty of pre-race tension in the air as first place in the series was up for grabs and is was going to be a close affair, but no-one would have predicted the outcome. The handicaps were getting harder and the racing was getting faster the evening was set for a showdown. James Brady was the first to cross the line after a poor performance the previous week he was out to eat tarmac and that is exactly what he did coming home in a blistering time of 29mins and 34 secs, not bad for 16 year old in his first year of multi-sport. David Brennan who was last weeks winner was given a heavy handicap but undeterred stormed around the course in an excellent time of 27mins 18secs which again is made all the more impressive due to the fact that this was David's 2nd multi-sport event, last week being his first. Back to the action, attention was now directed to who would be crowned the series winner and after much laptop activity in the local pub (not lap dancing, this is a family club) and from the numbers that were crunched, well it turned out to be a draw with both Deirdre Lynn and Tj Coen finishing with 77 points from the best 3 races out of 4. Needless to say Deirdre was delighted and once again Deirdre is new to Multi-sport. Prizes will be presented at the annual dinner on 28th September, check website for more details. The Aquathlon series was a great success and it was great to see so many new members to the club and doing so well...Watch out Ireland. Hope to see you all for a Winter Duathlon Series...keep checking the website.
