- Summer is officially over!!
- The final race in the Summer Aquathlon series took place last night, Wedensday 29th August. There was plenty of pre-race tension in the air as first place in the series was up for grabs and is was going to be a close affair, but no-one would have predicted the outcome. The handicaps were getting harder and the racing was getting faster the evening was set for a showdown. James Brady was the first to cross the line after a poor performance the previous week he was out to eat tarmac and that is exactly what he did coming home in a blistering time of 29mins and 34 secs, not bad for 16 year old in his first year of multi-sport. David Brennan who was last weeks winner was given a heavy handicap but undeterred stormed around the course in an excellent time of 27mins 18secs which again is made all the more impressive due to the fact that this was David's 2nd multi-sport event, last week being his first. Back to the action, attention was now directed to who would be crowned the series winner and after much laptop activity in the local pub (not lap dancing, this is a family club) and from the numbers that were crunched, well it turned out to be a draw with both Deirdre Lynn and Tj Coen finishing with 77 points from the best 3 races out of 4. Needless to say Deirdre was delighted and once again Deirdre is new to Multi-sport. Prizes will be presented at the annual dinner on 28th September, check website for more details. The Aquathlon series was a great success and it was great to see so many new members to the club and doing so well...Watch out Ireland. Hope to see you all for a Winter Duathlon Series...keep checking the website.

- Aquathon results (race 3)
- Another enjoyable evening of racing was had by all who turned out for the penultimate race in the Gortnor Abbey Aquathlon Series. It was David Brennan, a new member of Liquid Motion Triathlon Club who stormed home to take first place with a huge gap between himself and Bernard McGuiness in second place with the rest of the field steadily streaming in. David Brennan originates from the Castlebar Cycling Club and took the fastest bike split at the PowerAde Salmon Run Triathlon this year as part of a relay team and is definately one to watch as he has entered his first triathlon in Lough Key on 9th September. The results from the 3rd race in the Aquathlon series are now available. The current league standing after 3 races is viewable here. All the scores have been calculated by adding up each athletes score from the previous 3 races and dividing by 3, if you missed a race then your average will be low, but don't worry there's one more race on the 29th August and your best 3 races count...

- Race 2 of Summer Aquathlon Series
- Another good turn out of 'Liquid Motioners' for Race No. 2 of the Gortnor Abbey Summer Aquathlon Series. It was TJ (Captain Quads) Coen who took maximum points having got a good handicap from the previous week (something to do with cramps!!), TJ did put in a good performance on the night for a deserved win, a new comer Emmet Cassery took 2nd with John Callaghan in 3rd. There were several good individual performances, Deirdre Lynn taking almost a minute of last weeks time and John Callaghan destroying his time from last week, I think if John gave the towelling dry a miss after the swim next week who knows what he might do. Don't worry the handicaps will be adjusted accordingly. Remember its the best 3 races that count. Well done to everyone who took part and for the assistance with water safety, my apologies for the errors in the timing. See you all in 2 weeks (22nd August)

- Aquathon Series gets off to a Flying Start!
- On Wednesday 1st August 2007 Gortnor Abbey Pier played host to the first race of the 4 Race Aquathon Series that is being organised for Liquid Motion Triathlon Club Members. A good turn out of club members assembled for the handicapped start, it was great to see some new members to the club which now has a membership of over 40 triathletes. Linda Sweeney was the first athlete to brave Lough Conn's waters and headed off around the buoys on the 500m swim, the race was on! The handicapped system helps to maintain fairness in this type of race and if the start times have been worked out correctly then it should be bunch finish, but it was Sean Leonard who crossed the line first to take the maximum score of 30 points followed by Gerry Devaney. There were some good performances all round. Tomas Lynn putting in a super swim of 6min 42 seconds and Micheal Forde tearing around the run course to break 18 minutes. The next race in the series is on 8th August at 7pm, meet at Gortnor Abbey Pier. The remaining 2 races have been organised for 22nd & 29th August. Well done everyone. See you all next week.
