Liquid Motion takes the Connaught Title

Liquid Motion takes the Connaught Title
On Saturday the 16 June the National and Connaught Sprint Distance Championships took place in Mullaghmore Co Sligo. Liquid Motion was hoping to take some silver wear back to Ballina but no one could have for expected what was to unfold.
This year’s triathlon in Mullaghmore contained a top class field of triathletes from all over the country vying to become The Irish Sprint Distance Champion. There was heavy rain before the race started and people were wondering whether the weather conditions were going to play a part on the day. But luckily just before the race got underway the rain stopped and the sun made a brief appearance.
As the swim got underway the temperature of the water caught a few people by surprise. The swim felt longer than the 750m and the choppy waters did not make the task any easier. But most persevered and were delighted to get out on there bikes. The bike section was a challenging 20k course with some long uphill sections. The run which is famous for being one of the toughest but most scenic 5k runs on the Irish Triathlon circuit brings you around the head land and back to the finish line.
Bofeenauns very own David Sands produced a fantastic performance to take the Connaught Sprint Title with Paul Dunne in third. In the age group section Liquid Motion cleaned up taking a very impressive 6 Connaught titles and some notable second and third spots. No one at the club would have predicted such a fantastic result and all credit must go to the members themselves who have trained
hard all year. It is obviously paying off. It shows how far the club has come in such a short space of time and it means the Ballina club is one of the most successful clubs in the country.

Aquathon
-
An Aquathon (Swim/Run) is being organised by Crossmolina Festival for Saturday 21st July 2007 and is planned to take place at Gortna Abbey Pier just outside Crossmolina Town on the Lahardane road. The location is stunning.
The distances have not officially been finalised but look likely to be a 500m swim in Lough Conn followed by a 5K run through Crossmolina town centre.
It is intended to be a low key affair for its first year and is not being advertised nationally but it is a great opportunity for our top swimmers to do well, so pencil it in your diary and show some local support.
If anyone is interested in going down there for a swim let me know. The organisers would like to know the best place to have it, the lake is quite big and they are spolit for choice, we could make a training session out of it!
Good Luck.
David.
