    TRAINING NIGHT
The racing season is now well and truly underway with some of you having 2 races in the bag. One easy and far less energetic way of saving precious time during the the race is without doubt the Transition Area. Therefore a transition practise night has been arranged for Liquid Motion Triathlon Club members on this Wednesday night (30th May). Meet at Enniscrone Pier at 7pm. The format will be; split into 2 groups and each group do 2 Swim to Bike transition then the other group, and then the same format for the Bike to Run transition. After each transition practise there will be a feedback session from all! I personally have found this type of training very beneficial when it comes to race day, unfortunately it is actually very hard work. See you there, bring ALL your gear needed for race day. David.

    Liquid Motion takes a hat-trick
A fantastic result was recorded by three of Liquid Motions "elite" triathletes at Joey Hannon in Limerick. It only emerged about a week after the race when the full results were published that they had won their respective age categories. Sharon O Hara was to come home first in the female junior section; Linda Sweeney took the honours in the female 20-24 section and Tomas Lynn who fought off stiff competion in his category to clam the top spot in the male 20-24 section.

Mick Lyons one of the origianal members of the club and the reason why so many of us are involved in triathlon in Ballina has recently taken ill. We all wish Mick the best and have no doubt he will recover and come back as strong as ever.

    Windy Limerick
Seven local triathletes proudly represented Liquid Motion Triathlon Club in Limerick on Sunday the 6th of May. With the swim in the impressive 50m University Arena pool and a different bike and run course from previous years it was all change except for the same old faces milling about of course. Again there were two distances on offer the "Try a Tri" which was a 500m swim 26k bike and a 5k run or the Joey Hannon which was the full Olympic distance of 1500m swim, 40k bike and a 10k run. It was a first for many to swim in never mind compete in a Olympic sized 50m pool and it was an occasion that most club members were both excited and nervous about. With around 400 competitors taking part in the triathlon it was the largest field of the year for a pool based triathlon on the calender . But to Limerick Triathlon Clubs credit the swim went off without a hitch with the Try a Tri competitors off first in 2 waves followed by the Joey Hannon competitors in 2 waves also. On exiting the water the triathletes realized just how cold and windy it was for the first time. The question of whether or not this thin piece of Lycra would be enough for over an hour on the bike must of popped into a few heads as they were making there way out of transition. None the less they were on the way driving forward against the considerable head wind. Everyone would have been delighted at the turn around point to know that it was pushing you back home. The run was on a path beside the river in the University of Limerick campus. With two loops for the Joey Hannon and one for the Try a Tri. Club members produced some fine displays with a number of personal bests recorded. With Pb's so early on in the season it looks like its going to be a fantastic year for the members Liquid Motion.

    Carrick on Shannon
Triathlon season starts with a bang. The Aura leisure centre in Carrick on Shannon was the scene of the first triathlon of the season on Sunday 22nd of April and with a strong club presence about it was the Dunne family who showed the way by taking a fantastic 1, 2. There were two distances for to chose from the shorter distance of 600m swim,17 km bike and a 4k run or the longer distance of 1200m swim, 35km cycle and a 8k run. Most decided on the shorter one at this early stage in the season. Some of the Liquid Motion members who have bitten by the triathlon bug after competing in the Salmon Run triathlon in Ballina last July decided to make the short trip up to Carrick on Shannon. All producing fantastic times and showing that the hard training over the winter was paying off. But it was local man Paul Dunne who showed the way by winning an exciting race outright. He emerged from the water in second in a time of 10min 34sec and a after powerful bike in 27min 26sec he had taken the lead. On the run Paul was caught up and they had a tussle all the way to the final bend. Paul sprinted off the bend and opened up a gap to cross the line and grab the top spot about 30m ahead of his rival in an impressive overall time of 54min 57sec. Not to be out done by her husband Cloghans favorite Mary Dunne produced a fantastic display to keep the bragging rights at home to a minimum by taking the second spot in the women's race.

    PowerAde Salmon Run Triathlon
A meeting was held last night in Ballina to discuss the up and coming PowerAde Salmon Run Triathlon on Saturday 7 th July now only 2 months away!! There were 15 peolpe in attendance and a few new faces turned up which is encouraging, not that I am tired of looking at the old faces, and I know that some are not as old as me, anyway move on. Several topics for discussion came up regarding last years race and a brainstorm followed regarding this years race. There has been a huge amount of work put into organising the event this year and plenty more remains. Therefore on the next meeting we hope to delegate a few jobs to peole who want to help out with the organising, don't worry there is no pressure on anyone. Tomas Lynn volunteered himself as the new PRO for Liquid Motion Triathlon Club, if we had another 10 minutes he would have taken all the others jobs too, but we would like as many peole to be involved so that they feel part ownership of this years race and make it better than last year, if thats possible! So come along to the next meeting, no pressure, on Wednesday 16th May 2007 at 8.30pm at the Dock Bar, Kevin Barry Street, Ballina, who knows what you will end up volunteering for!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
