On the behalf of the whole club I would like to wish Stephen and David every success in overcoming the gruling challenge of UK IRONMAN 70.3 this Sunday (14th June). No doubt all the hard training over the past few months will pay off. This is a huge undertaking as it is regarded as particularly challenging Half Ironman.
The UK IRONMAN 70.3 Triathlon consists of a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike ride and 13.1 mile run. Athletes have 09hrs 30mins to complete the course and call themselves an IRONMAN. The event is one of a global series of 70.3 events run under the banner of the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC).
David and Stephen will be racing against the top triathletes in the world. The UK IRONMAN 70.3 has attracted a strong field over the years with Chris McCormack, Chrissie Wellington, Luke Bell, Bella Comerford, Stephen Bayliss, Julie Dibens, Fraser Cartmell, Catronia Morrison and Bryan Rhodes among those who have tested themselves against the course.
So best of luck again and have a safe and enjoyable race.

- Sizzling Performances at Tri Athy 2009
-
Well done to all Club Members who participated in Tri Athy on Saturday May 30th. The weather was fantastic with bright blue skies, a warm SE breeze, and a great atmosphere. In the Olympic race Mary Dunne, Deirdre Lynn and myself wore the club colours. Mary, Deirdre (and even me) all had new PBs for Olympic. The competition was hot and everyone who was anyone in Irish Age group Triathlons was at the event. In the Sprint event Stephen Donnelly and James Brady pushed one another hard with Eamon Kennedy putting in a great performance. Stephen and James clocked incredible times finishing 10th and 16th overall out of over 1000 finishers in the Sprint. The provisional results can be checked out at triathy.com.
A big note of thanks must go out to Tomas Lynn who has helped no end to raise the overall swim standard for many in the Club (at least for me) through is organising and coaching of the Winter Friday night sessions..
Looking ahead, watch out if you are considering signing up for the Caroline Kearney Memorial Triathlon. Registration is opening on June 9th. Check out midlandtri.com

- Salmon Triathlon 2009 Committee Meeting Sun 7th June
-
There will be a meeting of the Salmon Run Triathlon Organising Committee this coming Sunday at 19:30 taking place at the Dock Bar. I hope all Organising Committee members can join together with club members who are able to assist in the organising of our Triathlon. I realise Sunday evening may not suit some however it looks like the weekly training diary is full, with the weekly sea swims on Mondays, bike time trials on Tuesdays and the rest of the week not much quieter.
See you in the Dock Bar Sunday

- Mullaghmore 2009

Members of Liquid Motion will be donning the green of Ireland next year as they produced some fantastic performances to qualify for Ireland in their respective age groups. This is a fantastic achievement for themselves and for the club.
Peter Tuothy was the first man out of the water and finished in an incredible 7th overall, closely followed by James Bradey who finished 13th and Stephen Donnelly in 20th. Other notable performers on the day were Declan Cooke, Pat Hughes and Patricia Battle who went on to produce quick times with personal bests. Huge congratulations also to Una Casserly , Shane Mulchrone, Pat Bilbow and Michele Reynolds for completing their first triathlon.
The race attracted a large number of experienced triathletes due to the fact that it was one of the qualifying races for the ITU European Championships which will take place in Athlone next year. This makes the achievement of the Liquid Motion members who qualified even greater.
The locals who qualified for Athlone were Peter Tuohy, James Brady, Stephen Donnelly, Bernard McGuinness, Marcus Allen, Deirdre Lynn, Sharon O'Hara, Orla Donnelly and Linda Sweeney. Hopefully before the season is over more club members will have qualified and have the honour of representing your country.
This achievement highlights the progression which has occurred within the club over the past few years. The whole of Liquid Motion wishes to pass on their congratulations to everyone who got through. It is wonderful achievement.
