    Cape Town Argus Cycle 2010

In sunnier climates in South Africa, I enjoyed taking part in the 33rd Cape Argus Cycle tour.  The race winds its way through breathtaking scenery in the Cape Peninsula and is extremely well supported along the 110km route. It's a fairly busy affair with over 35 thousand competing starting in 70+ waves several minutes apart, so the odd pile-up is not uncommon!  Conditions were breezy and warm, but a lot more pleasant than 2009 race where the wind was so strong (see U-Tube clip) competitors struggled to start and there were thoughts of abandoning when the Porta-loos started flying across the start!

Getting to Cape Town was fairly straight forward and it was good to see the airlines had no problems with bicycle transport.  I was even pleasantly surprised not to be charged by either BA or Aer Lingus!

Perhaps we might get a Liquid Motion group together for the 34th Argus in 2011?!

Spring Duathlon Series 2010 - Race 2 Results

Well done to everyone who turned out at the Ramada on Saturday for the second Duathlon. The weather was near perfect and most people posted significantly faster times. It was another hotly contested race with David Sands shaking things up with a scorching opeing run. However Paul Dunne showed much improved running form to stay in touch and then put his slick transition skills to great use to come out on the bike in the lead. He built up a healthy lead on the bike, which was more than enough to hold off the chase on the second run.

Next race is on the 24th April at 11am (sign on at 10.30am) at the Ramada. Tea and sandwiches after.

    Club Meeting Monday 29th March

There will be a club meeting next Monday 29th March at the Dock Bar at 8pm.  The purpose of the meeting is to review preparation for this years PowerAde Salmon Run Triathlon.  Hope all Club members can join as we still need to confirm some members of the organising committee and guidelines for Club members who wish to enter this years event, to ensure we have experienced triathletes marshalling on the day.

In addition, we will start to collect names of club members who wish to purshase a Club cycling jacket prior to placing the order.

    Thanks

Spring Duathlon Series 2010 - Race 1 results

Finally the results for race one of the Spring Duathlon Series are available. There was an excellent turnout of 25 on what started out as a mild and very spring-like morning, and ended with a wintry deluge. A stiff headwind on the outward section of the bike also made the going tough. We also had a few visiting competitiors. Both the men's and women's races were very close with the lead in the men's race changing hands several times.

Its forecast dry with light winds on Saturday so get out to the Ramada and see if you can beat your mark. Race starts 11am sharp with sign on at 10.30am. Please note that only people with Triathlon Ireland membership will be allowed to compete (either full or associate). The last race in the series will take place on the 24th April where tea and sandwiches will be provided in the Ramada Hotel.
